For the first time since 1993, a monarch, namely King Charles, visited Middlesbrough yesterday. Although I’ve been lucky enough to photograph royalty previously, this was the first time I had taken pictures of HRH since he became the head of the Crown.

The location of his visit was the impressive new SeAH Wind plant, constructed on the former site of the South Bank coke ovens. This huge facility, that is nearing completion, is truely a structure to behold. It will be responsible for manufacturing vast monopiles which will form the foundations for numerous offshore wind turbines in the North Sea.

These visits are always a highly organised affair with meticulous planning and security protocol in place. From the photographer's point of view, they generally require quite a bit of waiting around to adhere to the aforementioned security, quick reflexes to adapt to the unexpected, good spatial awareness, and the ability to walk backwards quickly while avoiding falling over trip hazards. All of this while concentrating on the VIP attendee.

Fortunately I did manage to stay on my feet and had an enjoyable experience learning more about this magnificent new factory and increasing my photographic portfolio of famous and historical figures.
