Freaky Friday

I have had some long working days over the years but last Friday I accumulated some 14 hours. Variety once again was paramount, beginning with coverage of the Armed Forces Day in Darlington market square. I am always full of admiration for the collection of ex-servicemen that gather at such events to remember their friends and colleagues who made the ultimate sacrifice.

A drive out to Upleatham near Redcar to photograph two veterinary staff at their Clevedale Practice for a speed awareness campaign was followed by a journey north of the River Tees where members of housing association group Thirteen were taking part in an initiative to pick litter from the streets of Hartlepool prior to the Tall Ships event.

Back down to Redcar to cover the British Cycling National Championships where finally the humidity of the day led to a downpour. Those who had gathered seemed to enjoy the spectacle however, and as I drove home with the prospect of a couple of hours of editing and sending photos still to complete, I couldn't help but think how fortunate I am to be doing a job that I love.
